Road To Orkney - Amethyst, Prasiolite and Blue Sapphire Wire-Wrapped Bangle By Blue Almonds

Road To Orkney: Oxidised Sterling Silver Amethyst, Prasiolite and Blue Sapphire Wire-Wrapped Bangle Bracelet - by Blue Almonds

Measurements: the bangle is 14cm/5.6” in circumference and although it is slightly adjustable it would fit a petite wrist; the bangle is 2cm/0.8” wide are at the widest point

Materials: AA smooth round Amethyst, Blue Sapphire and Prasiolite micro-faceted rondelles, sterling silver

There is actually no road from the UK mainland to Orkney. One has to travel by boat or plain to get there. Most people would choose the boat and in late autumn time the sea gets very harsh which makes the journey quite uncomfortable. When I started weaving the bangle I was listening to the BBC Radio Scotland which would announce weather forecast every hour and I would hear all the news about ferries being cancelled or delayed. With this picture in my mind my hands produced this wild and wavy shape. The frame was hand formed into waves and the outer part was hammered. I then used over 5 meters of thin silver wire, clear Amethyst beads together with sparkling dark Blue Sapphires. I oxidized the bangle heavily to create this dramatic design. Three little Prasiolite beads were added to soften the shape like a touch of sea foam.

The Leaves Of Lothlorien By Zaplecione (Guest Designer)

Leaves Of Lothlorien - By Zaplecione (Guest Designer)
This set of bracelet and earings was designed because od Autumn, "Lord of The Rings" and beautiful elfs, who still live somewhere around us. The main boast of this bracelet is ornamental fastering, made with sterling and fine silver, sterling silver beads and lemon quartz rodelles. Two parts of fastening are connected with 3 piece of sterling silver chain, adorned with: lemon quartz rondelles (4-5 mm), sterling silver beads (2.5 mm), tiny lilac freshwater pearls (1.8 mm). Both pieces of fastening were adorned with beautiful champagne quartz briolettes (10mmx7mm). Length with ornamental fastening- 18.2 cm.
The earrings match with the bracelet very well - were made with sterling and fine silver wires, lemon quartz rondelles and champagne quartz briolettes (gems dimensions as mentioned above). Total length (including sterling silver earposts) almost 5 cm. Jewerly was oxidised and polished to bring out the beauty of the gemstones and subtlety of coils.

Grape Wine - By

Grape Wine - By Små Blå
Available exclusively at Wire Boutique

How do you make an attractive adjustable ring using wire wrapping technique? A ring that will look fabulous, hold its shape and preferably have a gorgeous gem wrapped to it. A problem I’ve been occupied with for quite some time now and I am so happy to finally have figured it out. I started with making a trial ring for myself and I’ve gotten so many compliments about it. It’s discreet, but still an eye catcher.
Handmade from scratch with love (and patience), silver wire and a stunning Amethyst faceted rectangle in the most beautiful dark purple/grape wine colour. I shaped a ring shank with 1,2mm thick sterling silver wire and gently, gently hammered it for strength and shape. With the help from the tension in the ring’s shank I fastened a coil made from different thicknesses of wire and to get a little sparkle I wire wrapped the Amethyst to the shank. I normally oxidise my jewellery, but for some reason this ring wanted to stay white and shiny. So I only gave it a gentle buff with polish and left it as it is.
The ring is 18mm in diameter in the position it is in the pictures i.e. in its most closed position. It can be adjusted to a slightly smaller or bigger size with about 1-3mm by squeezing the wrapped end with Amethyst under the coil or gently pulling it away from the coil. Well, it can actually be made much bigger then that, but due to the position of the Amethyst I wouldn’t recommend making it too big. Chances are the Amethyst will get hidden between the fingers then.
This ring is available for custom orders. Maybe you would like a different stone, a different size or maybe one in 14Kgold filled? Just contact The Wire Boutique with your requests. Please note delivery time is longer for customs order and will depend on what material you want and what I have on stock.
